Not having a properly fitting bra can create real pain in the back for many women. The British Chiropractic Association (BCA). The British Chiropractic Association first looked at this issue in 2008. A survey carried out by the Association showed that 47% of women said they had suffered from back pain at some point in their life, and that their breast size was a factor.According to Alison Archibald of Bristol Chiropractors and a member of the British Chiropractic Association “Bras are comparable to a suspension bridge, the engineering of which can prevent your shoulders taking all of the strain. Spreading the load is important. Bras that don’t fit well can affect the shoulders and restrict the chest movement building tension in the upper spine and could worsen over the years. It is crucial to ensure a bra gives you enough support, get properly fitted for a bra and replace old ones when they start to lose their supportive properties and if things are getting tight, an extension from a haberdashery counte will give extra comfort and movement for a mere two or three pounds”.
Despite the potential long term consequences of wearing the wrong size bra, women do not get properly measured because they are embarrassed or just don’t have the time. In the 2008 survey, 77% of those women who got professionally measured discovered that they had been wearing the wrong sized bra!Your local Chiropractors at Bristol recommend some great stretches and exercises to help improve posture.
